The 50 Mile Diet

What’s this all about, really

The 50 Mile Diet.

This is a personal challenge. It’s a way of shopping. It’s a way of thinking. It’s a way of cooking. It’s a diet. It’s an attempt to support the local farming economy and the overall local economy. It’s a way of eating healthy and tasty foods. It’s an exploration — what does it take to eat foods that are grown and raised within 50 miles of my home? Is it possible?

I want to know where my food comes from. I want to know how it is grown and how it is raised. I want to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels to get food to my table.

It’s a way of walking the talk. (Or eating my words…)

Fifty miles between me and my food.
