Rainy Day Comfort Food

purplebroc.jpgThis streak of rainy cold October days calls for hot suppers. With a teenage son who comes home hungry from sports, it’s to my (and his) advantage to have dinner ready for him. Otherwise, whatever is easy to eat will be consumed.

I love this local purple broccoli. It’s absolutely beautiful uncooked. When it’s cooked, it looks just about like any other broccoli. Gardens of Eagan grows this locally. I also bought a flank steak, locally raised by Thousand Hills Cattle Company (Cannon Falls, MN) that I grilled outside in the rain. I made “fries” out of potatoes grown locally from Donna’s At the Farm in Waconia, as well as two types of onions from At the Farm — cippolini and candy, sauteed in Hope Butter.

This was comfort food at its best and a 100% local meal.
