Cranberries from Warrens, Wisconsin found their way to my local store. Warrens is 175 miles from my town, but my craving for additional seasonal fruits and my slightly expanded view of local make these berries a great treat for this rainy day. Apparently, Warrens is also the “Cranberry Capital of Wisconsin,” with its annual September Cranfest celebration.
I love the tartness of cranberries, and they are full of great vitamins as well. Cranberries are high in vitamin C, fiber and the mineral maganese. There is quite a bit of research about the health benefits of cranberries, but frankly, I’m just glad to have a new ingredient for my corn muffins this morning! For the recipe, see my earlier post and add 1 cup chopped cranberries!
